Why is January the Best Month to Buy a Plane Ticket — Hurry Up

If you’re dreaming of a relaxing time on the beach, right now is the best time to make that dream come true. According to travel experts, airlines are offering some of the lowest airline tickets in years.

According to Hopper, which analyzes millions of airfare price searches every day, airfares booked in January will cost an average of $210 per domestic round-trip. That’s down 14 percent compared to last January. Hopper says that the lowest they’ve seen fares in three years.

Frontier is offering one-way tickets to places like Miami and Denver starting at $19. In addition, Spirit Airlines is offering one-way fare deals to cities across the U.S. for just $23 bucks!

Americans Airlines has a round trip fare for $100 from Dallas to Miami.

So, why are tickets so low? Experts credit the dip in fares to seasonality, low fuel prices, and increased competition. That said, travelers on some popular routes may not see much difference. Typically the lowest prices are for travel on Tuesday and Wednesday.

But as you guessed, these deals won’t last forever. Airfare is typically higher in spring and summer months. Hopper predicts that the average cost of round-trip fares will hit about $227 in March. That’s a 6 percent jump from February.
