WATCH: 32,000 Bikers Take Over NYC

Looking left and right down an empty Sixth Avenue on a Sunday morning makes you wonder what happened to the city the night before. New York City streets are simply never that empty of cars and the incessant honking that accompanies them.

But then comes a lone bicyclist, and then another, and then a wave of them, barreling down the avenue with the force of a tsunami on wheels.

A successful finish in Staten Island.

On just one day out of the year bikes are given precedence over cars in New York City. On Sunday, May 2, the TD 5 Boro Bike Tour rolled through the city’s empty streets, into Central Park, down the FDR Drive and over both the 59th Street Bridge and the Verrazano Bridge into Staten Island. Serious enthusiasts and casual riders traveled from all over the world to compete in the ride.

If you missed this year’s race, here is a small glimpse of what it looks like from a bike.
