BANGKOK (AP) - A Thai Airways plane hit severe turbulence over Thailand that injured 11 people Thursday, the airline said.

The Airbus A340-600 landed safely at its destination, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, according to airline President Jarumporn Chotikasathein.

The injured were taken to a hospital, Jarumporn said.

The extent of their injuries was unclear, and Thai Airways has not specified the nationalities of those affected.

Airline officials could not be reached for further comment.

Jarumporn said flight TG641 from Tokyo was carrying 227 passengers, two pilots and 22 crew members. He said it was flying at about 21,000 feet when it encountered rough air.
