Junk as Art: Zoo Exhibit Is Inspired by Endangered Animals

Animals are beautiful in their own right, but a new exhibit is packing the Philadelpha Zoo with a different kind of beauty: animal art made of recyclable junk.

Second Nature: Junk Rethunk opened April 11 and will continue until October 31. The exhibit calls attention to animals’ natural habitats, and keeping them unpolluted to help them thrive, or in some cases to not go extinct. Twelve artists created 70 sculptures out of recycled and repurposed materials such as car tires, chewing gum, and plastic bottles.
