Now That’s a Mobile Home! Couple Road Trips in Teeny House

Would you travel more if you could take all the comforts of home with you?

Here at Yahoo Travel we LOVE teeny-weeny trailers. But this couple has upped the ante. They are traveling across America and Canada in a teeny-weeny … house!

Guillaume Dutilh and Jenna Spesard are currently driving across the U.S. in a house that is just 125 square feet. The home, which is attached to a trailer, is just 20 feet long and almost seven feet wide. The ceilings measure about 10 feet high.

In 2013, the couple was living in L.A. and built the home from scratch after deciding to downsize their lives and live more simply. “We stumbled upon the tiny-house movement, and I said, ‘This could be cool,’” Dutilh told the Marblehead Reporter. “We’ve never built anything or gone on a journey like this, and it’s a good challenge, and we can make it our own.”

Building the little home took nearly a year to complete and cost about $29,328. On the inside, the mobile home is fully stocked with everything the couple imagined they would need for the journey. It has hardwood floors, a propane fridge, a washing machine, a propane cooktop stove, and a bathroom with a shower and a toilet.

As far at the road trip is considered, the couple kicked off their journey on Sept. 2, 2014, in Shelbyville, Ill. Since then they’ve traveled through several states and countless cities, chronicling their journey on the blog Tiny House Giant Journey. They also plan to make a documentary of the trip once it’s complete.

This awesomely small home is currently making its way across New Mexico and has upcoming stops in Las Vegas and Death Valley. The couple started this adventure with the motto, “Making North America our backyard,” and after looking at their list of upcoming destinations, we think they just might accomplish that goal.
