Here’s why you shouldn’t mess with wild animals — especially elephants. One traveler, buzzing through Khao Yai National Park in Thailand on a moped, learned the hard way.

As the rider came upon a group of elephants on the road and tried to pass them, the elephants, most likely upset by the noise and try to protect the little ones, charged the driver. Luckily, the rider hopped off his bike and into the brush. There he put his hands together in what looked like some sort of prayer. According to Thai Visa News, it was to show respect to the family of animals. The moped rider had to wait until the animals dispersed to leave, reports the Daily Mail.

There have been problems for months in Thailand’s third biggest park, with cars and motorbikes disturbing the animals who live there. Many are calling for the road to be moved or vehicles banned.
