9 Real Rom-Com Movie Locations You Can Actually Visit
1. When Harry Met Sally New York City has been the backdrop for many romantic films, but this classic Billy Crystal-Meg Ryan movie — in which the two start off as friends and end up as more — turns Manhattan into a character of its own. The film begins in Washington Square Park, in the middle of New York University (NYU), when Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) arrives with her new friend, Harry Burns (Billy Crystal), after a long postgraduation drive from college. Some other NYC hot spots in the film: the classically romantic restaurant at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park, where Sally meets her friend for lunch and tells her that she’s broken up with her longtime boyfriend; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on the Upper East Side, where Harry and Sally go for a lunchtime stroll. But perhaps the most famous scene in the movie takes place in Katz’s Delicatessen, an old-school Jewish deli on the Lower East Side, where Sally fakes an orgasm — in public! — to show Harry how easy it is. If you go to the deli, be sure to (a) order one of its famous pastrami sandwiches and (b) look for the sign on the table where the O scene all went down. It reads, “You are sitting at the table where Harry met Sally.” Mission accomplished.
