Ho Ho Holiday Travel Hacks to Save You Time and Money

I have to fly home for Christmas, and it’s always a hassle to deal with presents.

Present Tips

My first tip is to shop online. Don’t even think about packing presents. They take up way too much space in your luggage, and you’re left up a creek without a paddle if your suitcase goes missing. Instead, order gifts online, and have them shipped directly to your holiday destination. Worried about shipping fees? No worries.

First, if there is a shipping fee, it will likely be less than the 25 bucks it will cost you to check another bag, so take that into consideration.

With that said, a lot of places also offer free shipping. Amazon has free shipping! But if you want to get the free shipping and guarantee that your gifts arrive by Christmas Eve, you have to order by the cutoff date, which is Dec. 19! That’s tomorrow people!

Target can guarantee free shipping for Christmas Eve delivery if you get your order in by Saturday, Dec. 20 Gotta love Target.

If you do decide to travel with presents, don’t wrap them before you go. The TSA is allowed to open gifts in checked bags, and I don’t know about you, but my mom always told me not to waste wrapping paper.

Tips for the Airport

If you are traveling with just a carry-on, check in using your mobile boarding pass so you don’t have to wait in line to print at the kiosk, and you can go straight to the security line.

If you are checking a bag, use curbside check-in. It’s typically faster, and you can avoid the crazy lines inside. Spread a little holiday cheer, and tip the baggage handlers outside a couple of bucks for standing out in the cold to help you with your bags.

Happy Holidays!
