A young koala was rescued after it was found wandering in a recently cleared site on the Gold Coast.

Rescue group Wildcare Australia shared the heartbreaking photos of Ash the koala sitting in a ravaged paddock surrounded by wood chips.

“This would have been Ash’s home range since she became independent from her mother,” the group wrote.

“There is now nothing left for her to return to.

“This is a sight that saddens us deeply as not only has Ash lost her home but thousands of other animals including birds, reptiles, kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, bats and echidnas also called the area ‘home’.”

The group claimed many animals would have been killed during the mass clearing.

Ash was found Monday afternoon, and was taken to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary for a check up.

The photos have since received plenty of attention on social media, with local residents sharing their own experiences with lost and disoriented wildlife.
