#Daydream: Lover’s Leap, Lookout Mountain, Georgia

We know how it is. You’re stuck at your desk and the day seems to be going on forever. Your mind starts to wander — at first to “anywhere but here,” but then to exotic, faraway lands where your everyday problems and stress melt in the presence of true paradise. You want to go to there, and we want to go with you. …Lover’s Leap! This beautiful cliffside waterfall is the cornerstone of Rock City, an area atop Lookout Mountain containing a 4,100-foot walking trail, rock formations, caves, and lush gardens. Lover’s Leap is the perfect place to take in the surrounding view. According to legend, the cliff has a tragic and romantic past: The story goes that a Cherokee woman named Nacoochee and a Chickasaw tribesman named Sautee fell in love. Learning of their forbidden relationship, a group of Cherokee warriors captured Sautee and threw him off Yonah Mountain. Heartbroken and mourning the loss of her soulmate, Nacoochee lept over the edge of the cliff to her own death, inspiring the name “Lover’s Leap.“
