Cruise Critic has just named the best cruise ships of the year in its 2016 Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice Awards.
Disney Cruise Line swept the awards, picking up 11 first place honors. In the large ship category, Disney Dream was named Best Overall for the second year in a row. The same ship also nabbed Best Cruise Ship for Families, Best Cabins, Best Public Rooms, Best Entertainment, and Best Service.
Disney performed well in the mid-size ship category too. Though Holland America Maasdam won Best Overall and Best Cruise Ships for Value, Disney Wonder won for Best Entertainment and Best Service.

When it came to small ships, though, Cruise Critic readers showed their love for a wide variety of cruise lines and ships. Best Service went to Windstar Star Breeze; Best Dining to Island Windjammers Sagitta; Best Cabins went to Viking Star, and Best Overall and Best Shore Excursions both went to Celebrity Xpedition.
As explained by Cruise Critic, in order to ensure that the honors accurately reflect customer satisfaction, the awards are based entirely on reviews that real cruisers leave on the website — there is no voting component by the editors. That makes sense, since Cruise Critic is the cruise review site: It has the world’s largest online cruise community and has collected more than 150,000 reviews.
