Cold-Hearted Fun on Mikey Going Down
Comedian Mikey Kampmann spent four months in late 2011/early 2012 as a cook at a station in the South Pole. Just because it seemed like a cool break from making cameo appearances on Portlandia. Kampmann started a Tumblr to document the experience, named Mikey Going Down, and hanging out in one of the coldest places on Earth never seemed so fun. Shenanigans include a fashion show where he actually dressed up the South Pole, an exchange of coffee for vodka and a pistol with Russians, and lines like this: “I might as well talk about it since it’s happening. This place is like Ice Prison. And what’s the best part about prison? Getting abs.”
Kampmann is back on less-frozen U.S. soil these days, but he still keeps his Tumblr updated with his travels and career moves. His South Pole adventures are available in the archives.
