During hot summer months Panther Falls is a secluded retreat where, for more than a hundred years, hikers have enjoyed swimming in the cool, fast-flowing mountain water. Virginia-based photographer Robert Miller shows us the falls, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western Virginia, in late March, when the first signs of spring are starting to appear.

Long before European settlers came to this part of the United States, Siouan and Iroquoian Indians no doubt enjoyed the falls as the Pedler River rushed over them. In fact, men, women and children have enjoyed these falls for more than 12,000 years, and at some point, somebody obviously saw a panther.
