The heavenly gecko: Flickr photo of the day

Born in China, Canadian photographer Megan Cao saw many beautiful things when she visited Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province, China. Known for its beautiful countryside, Wuyuan, with its Hui architecture, looks much the way it did a thousand years ago: ancient pagodas from the Song Dynasty (960-1279 CE), fields of beautiful yellow flowers and old rivers whose waters look like they are painted on silk.

Cao shared a timeless image, one that gives life to history: In the era Song, Chinese people, who thought geckos possessed mythical power, called them “Heavenly Toads” and would have certainly appreciated this specimen.
