When she was chosen to design the new Riverside Museum (formerly the Glasgow Museum of Transport), the award-winning Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid delivered one like no other. The wave-shaped, zinc clad, steel building is a tunnel with one end open to the city and the other to the River Clyde. In between are nearly 3,000 objects relating to transport and the Scottish city’s special relationship to it.

Among the many modes of transportation on display are the sailing ship Glenlee and a mighty 1940s steam engine. Gordon Calder photographed the imaginative Bicycle Velodrome display in 2013’s European Museum of the Year.
