Flickr photo of the day: Living on the edge

In the 12th century, Henry de Beaumont, 1st Earl of Warwick, was granted the Lordship of Gower. A Lord needs a castle, and he had one built on a hill overlooking the Bristol Channel off southwestern Wales.

Today the pristine beaches of Three Cliffs Bay are among the finest in all of the United Kingdom; they would be mobbed if it weren’t for the weather. They routinely fly the Blue Flag, awarded to only the cleanest beaches in the world.

As if posing for the cover of a romance novel, many young ladies certainly sat among these rocks and searched the horizon for a tiny speck of white sail and the return of their sweetheart.
