Costa Rican Animals Sing to Save Vacation-Starved Canadians (And Americans!)

Adorable animals? Check!

A catchy song? Check!

Clever lyrics? Check!

This hilarious tourism campaign has it all. Released by Essential Costa Rica, the catchy video features adorable animals singing and urging people visit the country. The video is part of a tourism campaign called “Save the Canadians,” whose mission is to save, you guessed it, overworked Canadians.

The video was released in December, but as we slowly crawl out of winter, we thought it might offer a little inspiration to readers looking for a way to thaw out.

“Forced to work long hours in stressful environments, increasingly estranged from their natural habitat, the Canadian worker grows more endangered every day,” says the campaign’s website. “As resident animals of Costa Rica, we happily offer our country as sanctuary.”

A sloth, sea turtle, and various other animals sing to the tune of the Lion King’s “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” but offer up their own original and witty lyrics. “In the jungle, the city jungle, the human works tonight,” the animals sing. “In the Jungle, the concrete jungle, he’s becoming so uptight.”

As the animals belt their soulful serenade, clips of sad, exhausted, and overworked Canadians are shown followed by stunning photos of Costa Rica’s natural landscapes.

According to a vacation deprivation study conducted by Expedia, 27 percent of Canadians carry over unused vacation days. Additionally, 48 percent say that they feel vacation deprived.

So really, these animals are simply doing their part to inspire the entire country of Canada to use up those vacation days and book a trip. An added bonus — we think it might inspire a few Americans to do the same thing.

And if you don’t crack a smile while watching this video, you’re probably dead inside.
