Boat Story, BBC One, review: the Williams brothers bring Tarantino-esque gore to Yorkshire
- It would be unfair to see Boat Story (BBC Two) as wholly derivative, because it boasts plenty of original flourishes. Yet there is a very recent precedent for its plot premise: blameless civilians chance upon a vast stash of drugs, decide to sell it, thus coming to the attention of scary, stop-at-nothing criminals. No this is not Stephen Merchant’s The Outlaws but might they perhaps be related?

Baptiste, episode 2, review: a great episode - if only BBC iPlayer hadn't revealed the ending
Did I speak too soon last week when I said the shifting timelines in Baptiste (BBC One) were no hindrance? In that opening episode, taking us from then (British ambassador’s husband and children go missing, Julien Baptiste arrives to investigate) to now (British ambassador is in a wheelchair after some terrible event, and our hero is in an absolute state) added a sense of intrigue. But the shifts happened too often in episode two. Thank goodness for Baptiste’s beard, which is a useful distinguis

Baptiste, episode 5, review: this stifling Nordic noir remains enjoyably slippery
The penultimate episode of Baptiste was as enjoyably slippery as ever. Julien Baptiste (Tcheky Karyo) reclaimed the dirty money pinched by Edward Stratton (Tom Hollander) to buy young Cristina’s (Freya Kingsley) freedom from pimps and people traffickers, blowing it instead on a yacht in the name of thuggish Romanian Constantin (Alec Secareanu), thus making the latter look suspect to his even more unpleasant bosses. But Constantin’s superiors got to him before he could run or turn supergrass, lea
