Douglas' 'Kominsky Method' takes its final bow

[UPSOUND FROM 'THE KOMINSKY METHOD'] “Hello, ex-wife.”“Hello, ex-husband.”“What’s up?”“I think we might be planning a wedding…” It’s been over 30 years since Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner shared the big screen – as a bitterly divorcing couple in the film “The War of the Roses” – but time hasn’t stripped them of the unique chemistry it takes to play compelling exes… this time for the third and final season Netflix’s, “The Kominsky Method.” [UPSOUND FROM 'THE KOMINSKY METHOD'] “How come you never remarried?”“Oh, you really want to know? Well, Sandy, sweetheart… I never fell out of love with you.”“Really?”“No! [laughs] I was too busy with the work.”“Why would you do that?!”“I’m sorry.”“You’re not sorry!”“No, I’m not sorry! [laughs]” Aging, if anything, has only deepened their trust both say. DOUGLAS: “We've talked over time and it's just a comfort factor that allows you to overlap each other and your dialogue, to be much more comfortable - and in this case when you're playing an old divorced couple, it helps." TURNER: “There is an element of being a friend and a confidant that would otherwise be missing.” And speaking of aging, “The Kominsky Method” is largely about just that – getting old… the good, the bad, and, well, the dying that follows. [UPSOUND FROM 'THE KOMINSKY METHOD'] “You know how many of my friends have died in the last couple of years?”“No…”“Me neither, I’ve lost count.” Originally contracted for just two seasons as a sort of buddy comedy between acting teacher Sandy Kominsky, played by Douglas, and his agent Norman, played by Alan Arkin, season three opens with Norman’s funeral. [UPSOUND FROM 'THE KOMINSKY METHOD'] “We are here today to mourn the passing of my grandfather’s meat body.”“Scientology.” And, listening to Douglas, it sounded like Arkin, who’s 87, welcomed his character’s demise. “And I mean, Alan is, I got to admit this, a few years older than I am and I know how full I was. So, I think he probably had his full for the two seasons. But I wanted to do another year. I wanted to tie the whole show together, give it a beginning, a middle and end."Enter Turner, who’s pairing with Douglas is one of the great film “legacies”, says “Kominsky” costar Paul Reiser. “When you watch them, it's, it's so comforting. It's like, oh, I know this couple. And then they're both so good that, they're both just really good.” The third and final season of the “The Kominsky Method” premieres Friday.
