'Uncle Buck' Premiere: Different Buck, Same Pancakes

Uncle Buck premiered Tuesday evening on ABC. The television series is based on the very successful 1989 film starring John Candy. This is the second attempt to make a television series out of the film, the first being an unsuccessful try in 1990 with Kevin Meaney in the lead role. In the latest iteration, Uncle Buck is played by Mike Epps. The Epps version of the character dresses much nicer than the former Uncle Bucks, but the character still remains a well intentioned dysfunctional adult. The pilot episode's plot was a condensed version of the film plot line, with Buck being asked to babysit his nieces and nephew. Hilarity ensues as Buck grapples with being the children's guardian. There was also a nod to the original film as Buck still likes to cook giant pancakes, drive a jalopy, and use power tools to rescue his teenage niece from a party.
