“I wanted to approach it as a commentary on the time we live in, and Gen Z, but also myself because I’m totally addicted to my phone,” says Bodies Bodies Bodies director Halina Reijn on what drew her to the Kristen Roupenian story and Sarah DeLappe scripted feature. The horror comedy, which stars Pete Davidson, Oscar […]

How ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Uses Neon and Phone Lighting to Fuel Its Hyper-Online Bloodlust
Social media drives the performative interactions of entitled 20-somethings in Halina Reijn’s “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” but beneath their constructed personas, anxiety, fear and jealousy fester. Bodies Bodies Bodies Updates the Old-School Slasher Formula and Ends on a High Note
One of the great pleasures of summer is the purely enjoyable, disposable horror movie, one that comes with no pretention of being “elevated”—a term that demeans the overall genre, anyway. Bodies Bodies Bodies—the English-language debut of Dutch filmmaker Halina Reijn, written by playwright Sarah DeLappe, from a story by Kristen Roupenian, of “Cat Person” fame—takes a while to get going, and its intentionally ambling dialogue sometimes makes the pacing a little creaky.

Maria Bakalova on going from Borat to Bodies Bodies Bodies
Not many actors get to experience the type of rocket ride that Maria Bakalova did with 2020’s Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. She wasn’t merely catapulted to celebrity by way of her role as Tutar Sagdiyev, the teenage daughter of Sacha Baron Cohen’s bumbling and perpetually offensive Kazakh journalist. She was at the very center of the mockumentary’s most jaw-dropping, talked-about scene, which ends with Rudy Giuliani horizontal on a bed. Bakalova would go on to receive Academy Award, Golden Globe,

In the murderously fun Bodies Bodies Bodies, Gen Z privilege is the first victim
In Dutch director Halina Reijn’s freewheeling and incisive horror comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies, Gen Z characters get their throat slit, fall from the top of a staircase and get shot. Yet for these twentysomething party people who’ve gathered at an isolated New York mansion to ride out an oncoming hurricane, there’s nothing deadlier than a well-delivered insult. And there are plenty to go around in this razor-sharp skewering of group dynamics in the digital age. Taking place over one rain-soaked n
