RSA latest insurer to unveil hit from Beast from the East
Blue-chip insurer RSA has unveiled a £40m hit from the unusually cold winter in Europe and Canada this year after the icy conditions increased its number of claims. Beast from the East eats up Direct Line's entire yearly budget for weather claims
The cold snap that brought freezing temperatures to Europe earlier this year has eaten up almost all of insurer Direct Line's yearly budget for weather claims. The so-called Beast from the East, which dumped thick snow across Britain in late February and early March, has landed Direct Line with around £50m in weather claims - just below its £55m target for the whole of 2018. Mini 'Beast from the East' to bring up to 20cm of snow this weekend
The snow forecast for the weekend has just got worse - with the Met Office issuing amber weather warnings. Up to 20cm (8in) of snow could fall this weekend as forecasters warn of a mini "Beast from the East".
