Xiaomi Mi Max is a 6.44-inch behemoth of a phone

In April, Xiaomi teased the Mi Max, a phablet that has a large screen (Xiaomi would not say how big, exactly) but still manages fits in your pocket. 

Now that the Mi Max is officially out in China, Xiaomi is still sticking with the story (the company VP of International Hugo Barra called it "extremely pocketable" on Twitter, though we're not really sure all pockets can accommodate it. The Mi Max has a 6.44-inch, full HD display, dangerously approaching tablet territory (the iPad mini, for example, has a 7.9-inch screen).

Xiaomi did not share the phone's exact size, but it did say its metal body is just 7.5mm, while weighing a not-too-heavy 203 grams. 

And even though it's much larger than the company's flagship, the Mi 5, the Mi Max is more of a mid-range device, with a Qualcom Snapdragon 650/652 processor, Adreno 510 graphics chip, 3/4GB of RAM, 32/64/128GB of storage, microSD card support, a 16-megapixel rear camera (and a 5-megapixel selfie cam), a fingerprint sensor and a 4,850mAh battery.

The Mi Max will come to China on May 17, priced at 1499 RMB ($231) with a Snapdragon 650, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of memory. Upgrading that to a Snapdragon 652, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of memory will set you back 1699 RMB ($261), while the most powerful variant, with a Snapdragon 652, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of memory costs 1999 RMB ($307).
