Wider Yachts Is Debuting a 92-Foot Hybrid Catamaran at the Venice Boat Show—Here’s a First Look
Wider Yachts will unveil its first catamaran in less than a fortnight.
The Italian yard, which has built only monohulls for the past 14 years, will preview the inaugural WiderCat 92 at the Venice Boat Show from May 29 to June 2. The reveal marks a significant milestone for Wider, as it looks to stake a claim in the growing multihull segment with president Marcello Maggi at the helm.

Penned in partnership with Luca Dini Design, the 92 is the first in a new series of catamarans that will be built at the new Wider shipyard in Fano, Italy. Crafted from fiberglass, the 92-foot hybrid is at the forefront of technological innovation and yacht design. “Wider has elevated the WiderCat 92 to embody the style and elegance reminiscent of a monohull or even a superyacht,” Maggi told Robb Report in April. “The catamaran reflects a thoughtful balance between form and function, showcasing Wider’s commitment to refined design within the realm of multihulls.”
With a beam just shy of 40 feet, the cat offers a generous amount of space onboard. The first hull is equipped with one giant owner’s suite, two generous VIP cabins, and one twin, but owners can also opt for a five-cabin layout. This particular owner’s suite covers almost half of the main deck and opens onto a private foredeck lounge. The main deck is also home to a well-equipped galley and a customizable aft cockpit, while the upper deck sports an additional forward cockpit, a sky lounge, and the helm. At the stern, the tender garage can transform into a spacious aft beach club with fold-down bulwarks that increase the amount of waterside space. Wider is widely considered to have started the trend of fold-out platforms for yachts.
Interestingly, technology is what will distinguish this cat from others on the high seas. “The integration of Wider’s advanced serial hybrid propulsion system, rooted in the shipyard’s profound technical expertise, sets the WiderCat 92 apart also in terms of performance achievements,” Maggi adds. The vessel is equipped with two electric motors that deliver 500 kW each to the thrusters and two 349 kW generators that produce electrical energy. (Wider has also designed a 92 with solar panels on the roof.) The cat has a max speed of 14 knots, a cruising speed of 12 knots, and a range of 1,600 nautical miles at eight knots. In addition, Wider has teamed up with Italian outfit Applied to create a high-tech cockpit with real-time 3-D visualizations and more.
Maggi says eight other hulls are under construction at the yard in Fano. Following the unveiling of the first hull in Venice, Wider will release a four-episode web series detailing the evolution of the pioneering multihull. The WiderCat 92’s worldwide debut is scheduled for the Cannes Yachting Festival this September.
