Why you might see more Tesla semis in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – PepsiCo Beverages North America (PBNA) announced Tuesday it will be rolling out its electric-powered fleet across California, including Fresno.

“Our fleet electrification is an important part of our pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) strategy and illustrates how sustainability is a core business strategy at PepsiCo— good for the planet, good for our business, and good for the communities we serve,” said John Dean, President for PepsiCo Beverages North America, West Division.

PBNA says their 170,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Fresno now has eight 750-kilowatt Tesla chargers and two Tesla Megapack Battery Energy Storage to power their 50 Class 8 Tesla Semi trucks. They also add that 75 Ford E-Transit electric vans have been deployed across their 13 locations in California.

PepsiCo says deploying the vehicles in Fresno will kick off job training programs for students in Reedley College and Duncan Polytechnic High School. The program provides over 100 students with hands-on job training in electric trucks and infrastructure maintenance.

Officials say this is part of their effort to drive progress towards PepsiCo’s goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
