What We Expect From Mobile World Congress, Next Week's Huge Technology Conference

Next week, some of the largest tech companies in the world will converge on beautiful Barcelona, Spain, for one of the biggest technology conferences of the year, Mobile World Congress 2015.

The show, which officially kicks off on Monday, is dedicated to all things mobile, ranging from smartphones and tablets to connected cars and smartwatches. It’s sure to be an amazing show, and we’ll be there to cover the whole thing.

So what do we expect to see at MWC 2015? Let’s take a look.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge

We’ve been seeing rumors and leaks about Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge for some time now, but it looks like we’ll finally get to see them both at Mobile World Congress.

The phones are said to sport a more premium design than Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and pack 16-megapixel cameras. But the S6 Edge will likely steal the show thanks to a curved display that cascades off of both its left and right sides. Samsung is expected to reveal both on Sunday evening in Spain.

HTC One M9

Not to be outdone by Samsung, HTC is also expected to launch its new flagship Android smartphone, the HTC One M9. Images of the handset and even spec sheets detailing its camera, battery, and processor have already hit the Web, ahead of the phone’s official announcement.

And though it looks very similar to its predecessor, the HTC One M8, we’re still excited to see what the follow-up to one of the best phones of 2014 has to offer. HTC will also unveil its new phone Sunday evening.

This crazy phone

Besides new offerings from Samsung and HTC, a host of other smartphones are expected to make their debut at the big show, including this weird pocket watch-style handset from Monohm. Called the Runcible, this smartphone has a wood back and a circular shape.

It’s absolutely beautiful if not totally bizarre, and according to CNET will make its debut at Mobile World Congress. And we’re expecting a bunch more wild ideas from the world’s entrepreneurs and burgeoning tech companies, too: MWC is a reliable source of innovative gadgets and gizmos.

More smartwatches and fitness trackers than you can handle

Wearables are still the most talked about category of mobile tech on the planet, so you can bet we’re going to see a whole mess of new smartwatches, fitness trackers, and even a few pieces of smart eyewear debuting at Mobile World Congress. It will be especially interesting to see how smartwatch-makers are preparing for the Apple Watch, which is set to go on sale in April.

Connected everything

If our trip to the Consumer Electronics Show in January taught us one thing, it’s that tech companies are totally buying into the concept of the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things isn’t a single product: It’s the idea that all of our devices will soon be able to talk to each other via their own Internet connections.

For instance, you’ll be able to adjust your chair via your smartphone, or get a text message from your toaster when your toast is done –– things like that.

The GSMA, the organization behind Mobile World Congress, will have a mock connected city on display at the conference that will help give people a sense of what the future of the IoT has in store for their daily lives. We’ll let you know what the Internet-connected toilet of the 2020s is like.

Lots of Mediterranean food

Hey, Mobile World Congress is being held in Barcelona, which is situated right on the Mediterranean Sea, so of course we’re going to eat a ton of Mediterranean food and tapas.
