What It’s Really Like to Work at a Tech Startup
You may have heard that working in the Dilbert-like cubed confines of Silicon Valley is akin to being a hamster on a wheel. Toil, toil, toil, seemingly endlessly, in a never-ending cycle of mundanity.
Well, now Silicon Valley work can actually be life on a hamster wheel. Enter the Hamster Wheel Standing Desk. Beyond standing work space, beyond treadmill desks, the Wheel lets you pursue fitness goals and do your work at the same time in an endless cycle of, um, achievement.
The brainchild of tangible artist Robb Godshaw and developer Will Doenlen, the hamster-wheel desk is a project of Autodesk’s Pier 9 Workshop, a phantasmagoria of futuristic design tech mixed with artists and coders on San Francisco’s waterfront.
The hamster-wheel desk is supported by a set of four skateboard wheels and was designed and built in one furious 24-hour stretch. Want to run and never get anywhere? Treadmills are for the dogs.
