West Virginia DMV mainframe issues affect services

CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — Due to a hardware issue, the mainframe computer at the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is down and is currently not working.

West Virginia DMV offers ways to renew vehicle registrations

All 26 regional DMV office mainframes are down, which means that driver’s licenses or IDs, or motor vehicle renewals cannot be issued at any of those offices, online, or at the West Virginia DMV Now kiosks. This also includes County Sheriff’s offices who are also unable to update their car renewals.

This occurrence happened on Thursday, April 18, 2024 and as of now, there is no estimated time when services will be back on and running. The DMV offices will remain opened, but customers should be aware that these services will not currently work and should frequently check the DMV website and social media page for updates on this issue.
