Areas of Dubai recorded more than 10 inches of rain in less than 24 hours this week. It was the heaviest rainfall the region had seen in 75 years, leaving streets flooded and travel difficult. However, that didn’t stop one intrepid Porsche Taycan owner from driving (or, floating) through water that was nearly up to the door handles.

A pair of videos, posted by TikTok user zubair_khan44, shows a white Porsche Taycan navigating a Dubai street that has been completely flooded. At the beginning of the first clip, the Porsche EV seems to be floating and pushed along by the current of the water more than actually driving. In the second clip, the Porsche appears to gain a bit of traction as the water gets a bit shallower. As the Porsche moves through the water, it creates a bow wave and water completely covers the hood of the car.

Despite what appears to be a successful crossing, this was an incredibly dangerous stunt. A driver should never attempt to drive a car through a flooded street. A car can easily be swept away, or stall in flood waters which raises the risk of the driver and passengers drowning.

On top of the risk to human life, there is also the risk to the vehicle to consider. A Porsche Taycan is a fine electric sports car, but it is not designed for water crossings. The car in the video is a standard Taycan sedan. Even the higher-riding Taycan Cross Turismo has a maximum wading depth of just 13.3 inches. The water level in this video appears to be far deeper than that.

On top of everything else, this is an electric vehicle. Electricity and water generally do not mix. Kudos to Porsche for engineering a car that didn’t immediately die once it became exposed to such deep water levels, however, there is no telling the long-term damage that may have been caused. It is possible that by the time you read this, that Porsche Taycan is already a very expensive brick.
