The 2024 Acura ZDX arrives as the automaker's first EV. It's based on GM's Ultium battery platform, and the lineup includes a performance-oriented Type S variant that we got to drive.

The ZDX looks handsome with Acura's signature "Jewel Eye" headlights and a pentagonal grille that's actually a debossed panel with an illuminated outline.

Along with a 121.8-inch wheelbase, the wagon-like ZDX measures 197.7 inches from stem to stern, is 77.0 inches wide, and is 64.4 inches tall.

The ZDX A-Spec offers rear- or all-wheel-drive powertrains, but the zippy Type S is AWD only. It's also the most powerful model, making 499 horsepower and 544 pound-feet of torque.

The ZDX Type S has exclusive equipment that includes a height-adjustable air suspension and yellow-painted Brembo six-piston front brake calipers that clamp 15.3-inch rotors.

For $1000, the Type S can be fitted with stickier summer tires. They're mounted on a set of black 22-inch wheels.

Inside, the ZDX has an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in software and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Type S comes standard with a 360-degree camera system, additional parking sensors, a digital rearview mirror, Hands Free Cruise (Acura's version of GM's Super Cruise), a head-up display, heated rear seats, and three-zone climate control.

We wish the drive modes were easier to access and that the current mode was indicated in the gauge cluster; the level of regenerative braking is also hard to decipher with a glance.

The EPA estimates the Type S has a driving range of 278 miles, which is 26 less than the AWD A-Spec. Every ZDX has a battery with a 102.0-kWh usable capacity.

The 2024 Acura ZDX starts at $65,850, but that's for the rear-drive A-Spec model. The AWD A-Spec and Type S start at $69,850 and $74,850. All models are eligible for the $7500 federal tax credit.
