Uber Will Now Let You Stream Your Favorite Spotify Playlists During Rides

Uber’s big music-related announcement is indeed a new partnership with Spotify. Starting Nov. 21, riders will be able to choose their own playlists that’ll stream as they ride to their destinations. The Uber/Spotify integration will be offered in 10 cities at launch: New York, San Francisco, Nashville, Los Angeles, London, Mexico City, Singapore, Stockholm, Toronto, and Sydney. It’ll continue to roll out to new areas in the weeks and months to come. Essentially, you’ll be able to hijack a driver’s normal listening choices and play any song in Spotify’s giant catalog.

The process involves linking your Spotify and Uber accounts. (A premium Spotify subscription is required.) Once you do that and choose a playlist from within the Uber app, a driver can have your favorite tracks playing before you even get into the car. Or maybe you don’t mind letting your driver listen to his own jams. Just remember: Uber passengers get rated too, so don’t abuse your new-found Spotify privileges. And if drivers have zero interest in hearing your favorite playlists, they’re not required to participate. If they haven’t opted in, you simply won’t see the option to play music.
