(WJW) – Uber is launching a new service that could be a game-changer for families.

Uber Caregiver is a service that will allow caregivers to use health insurance benefits to help arrange and pay for rides to doctor’s appointments.

The tool will also give caregivers the ability to manage delivery services, including groceries, medicine and medical equipment, according to a press release from Uber.

The caregiver will also be able to track the rides and deliveries.

Here’s who Uber says will be covered:

  • Customers age 65 and older with Medicare Advantage,

  • Medicaid recipients

  • People with eligible commercial insurance via their employer

Caregivers can sign up to be notified when their insurance provider is added as a partner.

Health benefits cards can then be added to the wallet in the app.

The benefits cards can be used for co-pays, prescriptions, and transportation, depending on the coverage plan.

Caregivers can also be designated in the app from contacts.

Uber Caregiver officially launches in summer of 2024.
