Twitter Cash Stream: You Can Now Donate to Presidential Campaigns Right From Tweets
WASHINGTON (AP) — Think of it as tweeting for dollars.
The social media service Twitter now has a feature that enables political candidates to raise money directly on its mobile application, making it quicker and easier to harvest small donations from followers.
Campaigns have been using the social-media platform to spread their message, particularly during live political events such as Wednesday night's Republican presidential debate.
At least a dozen presidential candidates will begin using the new fundraising technique right away.
Twitter is working with the financial services company Square Inc. to collect the money and the information that the Federal Election Commission requires from political donors.
