Twitter Might Replace Its Retweet Button with a Share Button

Twitter’s identity crisis blazes on.

The social media company is experimenting with a design that would rename the Retweet function—an action in which you republish someone’s tweet via your own feed—with a Share button, Engadget reports.

Embracing the all-encompassing social media verb “share” is just one more sign that Twitter may be attempting to blend in with the crowd of its competitors, foremost of which is Facebook. That’s especially apparent because this trial comes just a day after the company announced a new feature that enables you to tag up to 10 people in a photo and share up to four photos at once.

The change is visible to only a few people at the moment. Twitter is clearly experimenting with the feature, showing it to a select few members, and may not roll it out to everyone. But it’s at least considering a change to the iconic Retweet button!

Twitter, please take a moment in your 19th century log cabin cafeteria and figure out who you are and what you’re doing. Thanks.
