Track Your Little One’s Temperature with the Pacifi Bluetooth Pacifier

UK company Blue Maestro has created a temperature-sensing pacifier that tracks a baby’s temperature over time. Hailed as the “first smart pacifier,” Pacifi sends temperature info to a free app on a parent’s smartphone or tablet.

“I know firsthand the difficulty in taking a sick baby’s temperature,” co-founder Kirstin Hancock told the Bluetooth SIG blog. “It is easy to lose track of readings and the timings of medication, so it becomes harder to determine whether the medication is working. Pacifi makes this easier, tracking the temperature and effect of the medication so parents can feel more at ease during this worrying time.”

Other features that set Pacifi apart from its competitors include Bluetooth-smart technology, which enables parents to simply turn the pacifier on and use it as needed. Because the device is “low power,” it is safe to use around little ones. The pacifier is also dishwasher-proof, another perk for busy parents. Other features include alerts via smartphones and tablets regarding preset temperature thresholds and whether the child loses the pacifier. The free app also allows easy recording of temperature and medication usage, which is sharable with doctors, family members, nannies, and babysitters.

Similar products include the Raiing Wireless Thermometer, which provides “smart monitoring of your child’s fever on i-devices,” and Kinsa, the “world’s smartest thermometer.” The Raiing model, called iThermometer, is placed under the baby’s armpit to monitor temperature. The flexible Kinsa thermometer is designed for comfort and syncs with the Kinsa app to provide temperature information. The app also distracts children with fun images as their temperature is being taken.

Pacifi is compatible with iOS and Android phones. According to Blue Maestro, the product will be available in the first half of 2014 and will retail for £20 (around $33). Interested parents can register for the product now on the Blue Maestro site.
