Thousands of Tesla Cybertrucks recalled for unintended acceleration

(KRON) — A recall has been ordered for thousands of Tesla Cybertrucks due to a problem with unintended acceleration. According to a recall notice from the EV maker, a trapped accelerator pedal can cause “the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The recall impacts 3,878 vehicles, according to Tesla.

“Tesla is recalling 2024 Cybertruck vehicles,” the recall notice reads. “The accelerator pad may dislodge and cause the pedal to become trapped by the interior trim.”

“If the pad on the accelerator pedal becomes trapped in the interior trim above the pedal, the performance and operation of the pedal will be affected, which may increase the risk of a collision,” the recall notice continued. “Note that application of the brake pedal will cut drive torque, including when both brake and accelerator pedals are pressed, and continued application of the brake pedal will bring the vehicle to a stop as quickly as if the accelerator pedal was not pressed.”

The issue was caused by an unapproved change that introduced lubricant to aid in the assembly of the pad onto the accelerator, according to Tesla. “Residual lubricant reduced the retention of the pad to the pedal,” the recall notice states.

Tesla service will replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly free of charge, the recall notice states. Notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners in June. In the meantime, owners can contact Tesla customer service.
