This Virtual Reality App Lets You Read Bedtime Stories To The Kids When You’re Away

Samsung has created a virtual reality bedtime story app for parents that are away from their kids.

The parent wears a Samsung Gear VR headset, while the child puts on a cheaper Google Cardboard headset.

They can then interact with each other through the app, with the adult reading the story alongside a computer animated 360-degree background that they can both see.

While the idea of a parent reading a bedtime story to their child remotely may seem a little bleak, the reality is that modern life means that parents can’t always be around.

“Sharing a bedtime story is incredibly special. But longer working days and hectic schedules make this harder to do,” explains Samsung on its Bedtime VR Stories app page.

“At Samsung we believe that technology should bring us closer together. That’s why we developed Bedtime VR Stories, so parents and children can enjoy a story together, even when they’re apart”, says the site.

The children’s headsets feature playful designs decorated with three characters - Jen the Penguin, Dan the Dinosaur and Jo the Robot.

The app is currently being trialled with families in the UK and is being developed for a ‘full release’.
