This Stylish High-Tech Bracelet Measures Your Sun Exposure And Gives You Sunscreen Recommendations

With the exception of a very few, I’m usually disgusted by the lack of aesthetic attention paid to wearable technology. Even Pebble’s much-heralded Pebble Steel (revealed at CES) has a tinge of Chinatown knockoff to it.

That’s why I was delighted to see the Netatmo June, an inoffensive—and dare I say, chic—way to measure your exposure to the sun.

Yes, its capabilities are much more limited than those of a smart watch, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t useful. The bracelet’s glimmering sensor (which comes in gold, black, or silver) evaluates your exposure to UV rays each day, relaying that information to a specially-made app. That app, in turn, offers a daily prescription of how to deal with your sun exposure.

So say you go jogging every morning: The app will evaluate the intensity of the sun, and give you image-based suggestions (like a picture of a sun hat, or sunglasses) to help you prepare. It even offers suggestions right down to the specific SPF.

As you can see above, the sensor detaches, so you can wear it as a brooch, or attach it to a more exercise-friendly band, as opposed to the leather one show in these photos. My pasty self wishes I had this when I went to college in San Diego. I would’ve saved myself from so many painful sunburns.

Netatmo June’s app is only available on iOS at the moment, but they assure us an Android version is coming. You can buy one of these in May, but no price has been set quite yet.

In the meantime: Rejoice! There is hope for style in wearable tech after all.
