This Is What Wi-Fi Looks Like - And It’s Amazing

The invisible wireless networks which surround us all have been brought to life in a photography project - showing the ‘ghostly’ Wi-Fi signals around us.

The images, created by design student Luis Hernan are created using long-exposure photography and a lighting device which changes colour according to signal strength.

In the images, red represents a stronger signal, and blue a weaker one, Hernan says.

The photographs, which were first shown off in 2014 and are currently on display at Digital Ethereal, show off how fragile the networks that surround us are, Hernan says.

They were created using an LED tool of Hernan’s own design, the Kirlian device, Pocket-Lint reports.

Hernan says, ‘The pictures result from describing the space through a performance with the Kirlian Device, which transforms signal strength in light colour (reds for high intensity, blues for low intensity).

‘Coupled with long exposure photography, it is possible to register the changing qualities of wireless networks.’
