The Nerds and the Bees: Google Glass Finally Has a Sex App

Full disclosure: I attended the AVN (Adult Video Network) show in Las Vegas for three consecutive years as a technology writer at a different site.

More disclosure: It was basically a giant pornography convention.

Even more disclosure: It was really, really, really weird.

I’ll spare you the gory details here, because that’s not the sort of thing a gentleman gets into on the first day of a new gig (well, depending on the gig, I suppose). But the justification for my press badge was simple: The porn industry has a long, storied history of helping to popularize new technologies, a principal decider in such technological battles royal as VHS vs. Betamax.

Granted, things didn’t work out so well when the industry backed HD-DVD over Blu-ray, but some things deserve to stay in lower definitions.

For its part, the adult entertainment industry is always looking to keep things interesting, and technology often affords the hook. It wasn’t just 13-year-old boys on message boards imagining the strange sexual potential when Google first announced its wearable head computer, and when the first Google Glass porn finally surfaced roughly half a year ago, the near universal reaction was: “What took them so long?”

I mean, Google Glass mounts a camera to your face. Do we have to write this stuff for you?

Developers clearly couldn’t wait to get a piece of the action. And while “sexy” is hardly atop the list of words that come to mind when we see Google Glass itself, Glass-wearers need love too, kids.

Which brings us to a new app for Google Glass called Sex With Glass, your one-stop shop for having sex…while wearing Google Glass. Created at a recent all-day Hackathon, those hotbeds for hooking up, the Sex With Glass app hastily edits together video of your night of sweet passion, shot via the camera on the front of Google Glass. Assuming that your partner is also a member of the Glass family (the Google one, not the game-show-winning wunderkinds for the J.D. Salinger books), you get perspective from both wearers — and also from your phone’s camera, which you can position for a more…flattering view.

Sex With Glass is more than just videography, however. You can change the music to some Boyz II Men, or dim the lights, if your Glass is connected to a wireless lightbulb. The app can also suggest positions, if you ask Glass for “ideas.”

Unfortunately, the Sex With Glass app can’t actually help Glass-wearers get a partner — that’ll have to go high up on the requested feature set for version 2.0.
