The Galaxy S5 vs. the Galaxy S4: What’s Changed?

Whether you’re an existing Galaxy owner eyeing an upgrade or simply someone who’s been thinking of joining the club, you probably know that Samsung announced its newest smartphone Monday, the sleek and tempting Galaxy S5.

But with the Galaxy S4 being only 11 months old, is Samsung’s latest a definitive must-have? And what work has Samsung put into its new smartphone to tempt you to upgrade?

Given that the company typically lowers the prices of its older-generation devices once a new announcement is made, the choice becomes an even tougher one for those currently holding a Galaxy S III or even something older. There are new features in the hardware of the Galaxy S5 — a fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone and verify mobile payments; a heart-rate monitor; an improved camera and processor. The S5 also has a larger screen and a redesigned back with perforations. The S4 does weigh slightly less than the S5 and is a bit smaller overall.

To help you tease out the real differences between the S5 and the S4 — or figure out whether you should just wait for the S6 — we’ve put together a side-by-side chart of measurables between Samsung’s two latest Galaxy S phones.

Take a look below, and best of luck with your decision:
