The Code Is Strong With This One: Star Wars Game Makes Learning To Code Fun

With Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens about to hit cinemas, what better way to learn to code than by helping the rebel alliance to defeat the Empire?

Coding sounds terribly boring and looks impenetrable to anyone who hasn’t had any training, but Code.org has come up with a way to make it fun for young (and old) Star Wars fans.

Using little scenarios involving the BB-8 droid and R2D2, it sets puzzles that must be solved using drag and drop code commands.

In a mere ten minutes, you can learn the code commands necessary to make the icons move around the screen collecting scrap metal and avoiding enemies.

The idea is to get gradually build up your skills by making it seem like a game - the site offers around an hour’s worth of coding.

The makers are also working on smartphone and tablet apps to complement the web version, as well as support in other languages.
