SwiftKey Keyboard Goes Free on Android, Can Now Predict Your Next Emoji

Who would have predicted this? SwiftKey, one of Android’s more popular third-party software keyboards, went free Wednesday and added a bunch of new features, too.

Previously available for $3.99 in the Play store, the company announced in a blog post that newcomers can now snag the keyboard for zero dollars. Current paid customers will be rewarded with a complimentary package of Premier Themes, a $4.99 value.

In this newest version, SwiftKey has added emoji to its predictive talents, meaning it will make emoji suggestions based on what it learns from your regular use. The keyboard now also packs over 800 emoji to choose from, so the sky is seemingly the limit there.

The keyboard’s default look has also been given a makeover, and the new SwiftKey Store is stocked with 30 free and paid themes.

All the SwiftKey fun has so far been exclusively Android, but, to coincide with the compatibility of third-party software keyboards in Apple’s forthcoming iOS 8, SwiftKey confirmed earlier this month that a full version of its keyboard will be coming to the App Store soon enough. So far, though, the particulars on whether or not the iPhone and iPad version of SwiftKey will also be free and include all these new goodies have yet to be shared.
