Stuck with a Spotify username you hate? Here's how to change your display name.

Instant music streaming platforms like Spotify have made it easy for people to discover and access music on the web. Gone are the days when music was downloaded, curated and pushed onto MP3s and phones. Now, with a tap of a finger, you can access as much music as you'd like and even see your end-of-the-year listening habits.

Spotify is the leading music streaming service in the world despite strong competitors like Apple Music and Amazon Music, according to Forbes. Spotify users get to create playlists that showcase their personalities to share with their followers. Your username and public profile is part of that presence.

How to change Spotify username

According to Spotify Support, usernames cannot be changed once created. Usernames are only used to identify the user on Spotify.

You can, however, change the way your name appears on your profile and, ultimately, to your followers. This is known as the display name or nickname on Spotify.

How to change your display name

Users see your display name, not your username on the profile, app and playlists.

Here’s how you can change your display name on desktop:

  1. Click the down arrow on the top right corner.

  2. Select Profile.

  3. Click on your profile name and edit it to your liking.

  4. Don’t forget to click Save.

How to change the display name on mobile and tablet

  1. Tap on Home at the bottom of the screen.

  2. At the top right, tap on Settings icon.

  3. Select View profile.

  4. Under your current username/display name, there’s an option to Edit Profile – tap it.

  5. Edit your display name to your liking. Here, you can add or change your profile photo too.

  6. Hit Save to save your display name.
