Storybook Capital of America gets new interactive app

Abilene is known to many as the Storybook Capital of America, and strolling downtown, it is very evident. Ahead of this year’s CALF, Abilene’s CAC announced an app to give everyone a fun and interactive look during the festivities.

Lynn Barnett, executive director for Abilene Cultural Affairs Council, told KTAB/KRBC the Abilene Storybook Experience is meant to be used as a tool come June.

“It was just a way for people to discover the amazing storybook assets in our downtown. When you go into the Grace, it has information about the Grace and the NCCIL and the Paramount Theater,” Barnett said.

After downloading the app, you can collect badges, benches, and characters all scattered across Downtown Abilene.

Barnett explained some of the functions of the app, “When you are in the proximity of the sculptures… You will see sculptures and you’ll tap on sculptures- it pops up and it becomes a little bit animated, and so then you can collect that.”

After collecting an item, it is saved to the app, so you can take them with you after leaving the Key City.

A launch party at the Storybook Gardens is scheduled for May 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with food and app experts to answer any questions.
