For fans of survival horror, it’s been a long time coming, but GSC Game World‘s STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl finally has a release date. As of now, the studio has confirmed that the eagerly awaited follow-up will be coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 5.

One last delay

A recent – and rather lengthy – Twitter post from the developer shared “honest thoughts” with fans who have waited a long time for STALKER 2 to arrive. It has been a “challenging development process” for the team, especially amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, which GSC found itself fleeing from.

However, the statement is proud to bring the good word about the game’s “final release date.” This does mean yet another delay, but most will be understandable given the trials and tribulations GSC has gone through.

The post goes on to say that “preparation needs to be done so that the journey into the Zone goes smoothly and as planned,” adding a thank you to fans for their “patience and support.”

The above trailer is nice and subtle, showing soldiers sitting around a campfire, slurping beverages as a gentle acoustic guitar plays. This is then followed by the release date, hopefully signifying the end of a long and arduous development.

The upcoming follow-up is the fourth installment in the STALKER series. The first game was released in 2007, with Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat launching in 2008 and 2009, respectively. This marks 15 years since the last entry. The timeline on the Wikipedia page gives a visual representation of just how large this gap is.

So, mark your calendars for September, as STALKER 2 is coming, but it is still a few months away. You can, however, pre-order the game now.
