Soon You’ll Be Able to Order Taco Bell from Your Phone
Taco Bell is not a thing you plan to eat, per se. After a few drinks or a bad day, it just sort of happens.
That’s why we’re so excited about the company’s plan to release a mobile ordering app. According to the Nation’s Restaurant News, the Taco Bell app will be out later this year. Almost as soon as you experience a spontaneous craving for a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, you will be able order it with a few taps on your smartphone. When you arrive at the nearest Taco Bell, it will be waiting for you.
You get your immediate caloric comfort blanket, and Taco Bell gets your $2.49. Everybody wins.
The Southern California-based fast food chain started working on this app about two and a half years ago, per the NRN. Recently, it tested a beta version in five of its Orange County locations. Within the next few weeks, it’ll expand the service to more select restaurants. Taco Bell plans to give the gift of mobile chalupas to the rest of the country later this year, once all the operational kinks are worked out.

As soon as you choose what you want, the app will locate the closest Taco Bell and tell you its hours and directions. Because nothing says, “Your life is a sad mess” more than eating cold Taco Bell, the system uses GPS to pinpoint the location of whomever’s ordering, so the kitchen staff knows when to start making the order. Usually, allowing a fast-food restaurant to track my location would feel like an invasion of privacy, but if I’m ordering Taco Bell from my phone, I’m assuming all my normal reasoning skills are out the door.

Once you’ve arrived, you can either walk into the store and pick up your grub, or pull up to the drive through and say, “Mobile order for [your name]” into the call box. When a taco craving strikes, it’s important to be efficient with your communication.
And if your blood pressure wasn’t peaking just yet, there’s more of this on the way. Chains like McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A also plan to release mobile ordering apps this year.
If only they were here in time for this Valentine’s Day.
