Sony Launches ‘Ghostbusters’ Mobile VR Experience (EXCLUSIVE)

Ghostbusters” fans can slip on their proton pack and go toe-to-toe with Slimer thanks to a new interactive virtual reality game.

The game is titled “Ghostbusters VR – Now Hiring,” and is available for purchase as an app on iOS and Android mobile platforms, with a price of $4.99. It also comes free with the 4K Blu-ray editions of the recent film reboot. That film featured Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Kristen Wiig taking on the roles of paranormal investigators.

The game allows players to re-assemble proton packs, hunt ghosts and trap them in containment units, touch and feel ecotoplasm (not sure how appealing that is), and tour the group’s firehouse headquarters. It does not, sadly, come with a himbo office manager (played hilariously in the film by Chris Hemsworth). The app can be used with a compatible virtual reality viewing device such as Merge VR Goggles or Google Cardboard.

Sony, the film’s producer, has been betting heavily on virtual reality. Last month, for instance, the studio said it planned to partner with Reality One to develop, produce, and finance a slate of virtual reality content. Those projects draw on the studio’s existing films and franchises, as well as center on completely original works.
