The Shure MV7 has been one of my go-to USB mics for over a year and a half. It's been with me through countless podcast appearances, online meetings, and even some virtual stand-up gigs. So, when Shure announced the MV7+, my curiosity was piqued.
Is it a complete overhaul? Not quite. The MV7+ stays true to its predecessor's winning formula while improving the Motiv software to take it up a level. Will it replace its predecessor as our best USB Mic? There’s only one way to find out.
Shure MV7+ pricing and configurations
The MV7+ is a great option for podcasters and streamers and will cost $279. A bundle that comes with the MV7+, Gator Boom Arm, and a pair of SRH440A Professional Recording Headphones for $429 is a complete studio setup. If that is too rich for your blood, try the MV7+ Podcast microphone, desktop stand, and SE215CL professional earphones for $399.
Shure MV7+ design
Much like its predecessor, the MV7+ is a solidly built, medium-sized stout mic with an aluminum frame and swiveling yolk for positioning. It's fairly heavy at 1.26 pounds. Shure says the MV7+ is a little longer than the MV7 because of a thicker pop filter built into the foam mic cover. The yolk has a standard 5/8-inch threaded mount, which means it screws right onto most mic stands without an adapter.
The biggest change is the top control panel. Whereas the MV7 has several controls, the MV7+ has a glowing LED light and a single-use touch control: mute or unmute. A team member from Shure told me that some MV7 users found the small controls too difficult to use, which explains the simplification. It’s nice to see a company take its users' opinions seriously and have the courage to change an already-winning design.
The MV7+ uses a combo XLR / USB-C connection option, an improvement over the MV7's micro USB output. The mic easily patches into macOS and Windows computers, Android and iOS devices, and pro-level audio mixers. The Shure MV7+ Podcast mic kit box includes a three-meter USB-C-to-USB-C cable, a weighted metal base, and a telescoping mic stand.
The Shure is lighter and smaller than the Hyper X Quadcast (8.5 x 2 inches, 1.58 pounds) but larger than the Razer Seiren Emote (3.9 x 7.6 x 3.9 inches). It’s closest in size (4.3 x 3.8 x 8.3 inches) and weight (1.4 pounds) to the Blue Yeti Nano. The lightweight yet sturdy build makes it a great mic to take with you if you’re recording on the go.
Shure MV7+ microphone quality
With mixed XLR/USB-C connectivity, the MV7+ can handle various recording scenarios. As such, I tested it in several ways to gauge its performance.
No matter the target device, my sample recordings offered a clean, warm tone with a richness that lent my voice some of that sought-after, radio-quality sound. The automatic popper stopper and digital denoiser prevent plosives and background noises from ruining your recordings.
The XLR connector enables a handful of other recording options, like a connection to a studio mixer. In this case, you will enjoy the warm, clear, highly fine-tuned audio.
Overall, the Shure MV7+ produces warm, clear sound and is sensitive enough to capture all the nuances of your voice without adding in unwanted background noise.
Software
Mobile users can leverage the Shure Motiv Audio app (Android/iOS) for similar control, mirroring most desktop features. However, unlike Macs and Windows, your mobile device needs Motiv Audio open to recognize the MV7+. Both desktop and mobile apps allow you to customize microphone gain, headphone monitor volume, and even mute the microphone entirely. You can also choose from various EQ presets (or create your own with manual adjustments) and take advantage of Shure's innovative features like Voice Isolation Technology, which separates your voice from unwanted background sounds.
The improved Auto Level Mode in Motiv Mix automatically adjusts your mic's gain based on distance, volume, and spatial detection for optimized audio levels, ensuring consistent sound quality. The real-time Denoiser uses cutting-edge technology to eliminate ambient noise in your room. At the same time, the Digital Popper Stopper removes harsh plosive sounds so you can avoid acoustic distractions on your audio tracks. There is no need for a bulky external windscreen – the MV7+ even has a built-in pop filter for on-camera recordings.

Is it worth $279?Absolutely. Shure built the MV7 like a tank, and it records studio-quality sound that isolates your voice. Thanks to the Shure Motiv software, it's super easy to use. My only minor gripe is the need for a stand, but that should continue for you. This mic will take your podcasting or streaming to the next level. It’s worth the investment.
