Seven Southern University students earn IBM Masters Fellowships

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Seven Southern University students who earned IBM Masters Fellowships were honored on Thursday, May 16 at the Southern University System Board of Supervisors meeting.

Vishak Chandrasekharan, Ama Darkwah, Shilpa Jaiswal, Sri Chandana Julalanti, Evelyn Quansah, Shwetha Ramadas and Amilah Mendoza were awarded $11,000 each through the IBM Masters Fellowship program.

The IBM Masters Fellowships recognizes and supports extraordinary master’s degree students making their mark in studying the application of “promising and disruptive technologies,” according to a news release.

“Congratulations to Southern University and A&M College and its seven students on being recognized by IBM’s Masters Fellowship in their quest for excellence and innovation,” said Lydia Logan, IBM VIP of Global Education and Workforce Development. “Many of these scholars are researching the application of important technologies like AI to numerous aspects of life and science.”

IBM is also providing recipients the chance to work directly with IBM experts to get coaching on their research, according to a news release.
